Sheyenne River bridge, Lisbon, ND, circa 1907

About this postcard

Black-and-white view of the Sheyenne River at Lisbon, North Dakota, with a low concrete bridge spanning the calm water in the middle distance. Dense trees line both banks, and their reflections fill the still river in the foreground. Lisbon, the Ransom County seat, sits along this stretch of the Sheyenne, a slow river that meanders north through the Red River Valley. A sturdy road bridge was the kind of local improvement prairie towns liked to show off, and views like this were printed in small runs and sold locally as real photo cards.
