Ship in a storm off Highland Light, Cape Cod, Massachusetts, circa 1910

Card type
Printed photo

About this postcard

A black-and-white halftone view of a three-masted square-rigged ship heeling hard in heavy seas, with a lighthouse and low shoreline visible at right. The printed caption identifies the scene as a near-wreck off Highland Light, the 1857 Cape Cod lighthouse at Truro, Massachusetts, a landmark long notorious among coastwise mariners for the dangerous shoals of the outer Cape. Such dramatic marine views were popular postcard subjects in the early twentieth century.
