About this postcard

The Shrine of the Little Flower, a small stone church with a steep roof, dormer windows, and an arched entrance, sits behind a lawn and flower beds at Woodward Avenue and Twelve Mile Road. The caption gives a Detroit address, but the corner is in Royal Oak, several miles north of the city limits, along the Woodward corridor that was filling in as a suburb in the 1920s. The parish was organized in 1926, the year its priest, Father Charles Coughlin, began radio broadcasts. His broadcasts soon brought a national audience to a congregation that had started with a modest church like this one. A larger church replaced the building in the 1930s.
