An aerial view shows the Shushan Airport administration building and two hangars on the New Orleans lakefront. The administration building held the passenger lobby, airline ticket offices, a post office, and stations for the U.S. Weather Bureau and Department of Commerce. The hangars were fireproof, each 100 by 200 feet, with electrically operated doors. The surrounding grounds were planted with evergreens and flowering shrubs. The airport opened in 1934 and was later renamed Lakefront Airport.
