Silver Lake, Mt. Whiteface and Mt. Chocorua, NH, 1920

Card type

About this postcard

A wide view across Silver Lake toward the low, dark ridge of Mount Whiteface and Mount Chocorua, with wooded shoreline and a cluster of trees at right. The sky fades from pale blue to a pink sunset glow above the hills. The view is from near the village of Madison, New Hampshire; Whiteface rises 4,057 feet and Chocorua 3,508 feet. Silver Lake drains into Ossipee Lake and on by the Ossipee and Saco rivers to the Atlantic. The scene reflects the White Mountains summer trade of the early 20th century, when rail lines brought visitors to the lakes and mountain resorts.
