About this postcard
A tinted view looking along Sixth Street from its corner with Felix Street in St. Joseph, Missouri, with brick and stone commercial blocks lining the muddy roadway, a projecting "LEADER" sign on the tall red-brick building at right, and horse-drawn carriages and wagons standing at the curbs. St. Joseph was a major Missouri River trading and outfitting town, the eastern terminus of the Pony Express in 1860 and a busy dry-goods and jobbing center in the early 1900s. The corner storefronts with their awnings and hanging signs reflect the typical commercial streetscape of a Midwestern river city of the period.
