About this postcard
Looking down Sixth Avenue in downtown Pittsburg, with trolley cars and a horse-drawn wagon on the tracks, pedestrians along the sidewalks, and red-and-white striped awnings on the commercial blocks at right. The Duquesne Club, a private businessmen's club founded in 1873, is the landmark named in the view; its Romanesque clubhouse on Sixth Avenue opened in 1890. The city appears under its period spelling, Pittsburg, the official form from 1891 until the final h was restored in 1911. An extensive streetcar network served the downtown commercial district in this period.
