About this postcard
Looking down Sixth Avenue in downtown Pittsburgh, with trolley cars and a horse-drawn wagon on the tracks, pedestrians along the sidewalks, and red-and-white striped awnings on the commercial blocks at right; the card's own caption names the Duquesne Club among the buildings shown. The Duquesne Club, a private businessmen's club founded in 1873, moved into its Romanesque-style clubhouse on Sixth Avenue in 1890 and remains a landmark of the city's Golden Triangle. The view captures the era when an extensive streetcar network served Pittsburgh's downtown commercial district.
