About this postcard

A winding mountain road, the Skyline Drive, curves past a stone retaining wall lettered "SKYLINE DRIVE" on the left. A rocky cliff and trees rise on the right, with a valley opening beyond. The road runs along the Blue Ridge in Shenandoah National Park; by 1941 it was a popular motor tour, and Front Royal served as its northern gateway. A traveler writing home after crossing the drive reported that the Chevie "takes the hills & curves without a balk," with "Mountains & more ahead of us yet." A local souvenir shop advertised itself as "where the Skyline Drive begins."
