About this postcard
Two snow-laden spruces fill the foreground, branches bent under the snow, with a stand of taller dark evergreens behind them and a clear blue sky above. The printed greeting across the bottom reads "Ein frohes Weihnachtsfest und beste Wünsche zum neuen Jahr." The card carried a Christmas thank-you from Heidelberg to Dearborn Heights, Michigan, in December 1970: thanks for a Christmas card received, wishes for a happy new year, and a line that the senders were well and hoped the recipients were too. It was posted from Boxberg, a hillside neighborhood above Heidelberg, to a household in a Detroit suburb, the kind of small exchange that kept transatlantic ties going through the holidays.
