About this postcard
A bird's-eye view of Monument Circle in Indianapolis, dominated by the Soldiers' and Sailors Monument, a 284-foot limestone obelisk completed in 1901 and topped by the statue "Victory." Around the circular plaza stand early twentieth-century commercial blocks, including a tall white skyscraper at right and a church spire at left, with streetcars and autos on the surrounding streets. The monument, designed by Bruno Schmitz, honors Indiana's Civil War and other war veterans and remains the centerpiece of downtown Indianapolis.
