About this postcard

A tall white soldiers' monument topped by a statue stands in a grassy park, with an American flag, cannons, and a flower bed around it. The printed caption names the site Soldiers' Monument and Park in Rochester, Pa., a borough in Beaver County along the Ohio River. The sender of the card calls it the place where Eddie lives, giving the civic scene a personal connection. The monument is the kind of civic memorial common in Pennsylvania river towns, set aside for public ceremonies and remembrance. Rochester sits along the Ohio in the industrial Beaver Valley, and the park's flag and cannons give the scene a patriotic character.
