About this postcard
Looking down South Elm Street in Greensboro, North Carolina, the card shows a wide unpaved commercial street with trolley tracks curving through the foreground, horse-drawn wagons and buggies at the curbs, and a dense line of multi-story brick business blocks receding into the distance beneath a forest of telegraph and trolley poles. Signs for a drug store and other shops are visible along the right-hand block. Greensboro, seat of Guilford County, grew as a textile and insurance center in the early 20th century, and South Elm Street was its principal retail thoroughfare.
