The view looks down the south end of Cathedral Hall, a large chamber in the Grottoes of the Shenandoah show cave at Grottoes, Virginia. Pale dripstone covers the walls and ceiling, and two small figures in dark clothing stand on the cave floor near the far end, giving a sense of the hall's scale. The scene reflects the show-cave tourism of the early twentieth century, when Shenandoah Valley caverns were promoted as scenic attractions and figures were commonly included in photographs to make the chambers' size legible.
White border around the image; lithographic/chromolithographic texture with visible screen. Slight corner and edge wear.
No postmark, no handwriting. Divided-back Commercialchrome color card, card no. 57738; white border on front. Back shows light foxing/toning stains and minor edge wear.
