About this postcard
A black-and-white view down South Howard Street in Akron, Ohio, with a trolley car on tracks in the roadway, horse-drawn wagons and delivery carts at the curbs, and pedestrians in coats and hats on the walks. Rows of three- and four-story brick commercial blocks with awnings and shop signs line both sides, among them a corner store advertising 'GREENWOOD' and a dental parlor, while a tall smokestack and a large factory block rise in the distance. Overhead trolley wires and utility poles cross the sky. Akron was then a fast-growing industrial city, soon to be known as the Rubber City, and Howard Street was one of its principal downtown business streets.
