About this postcard
A trolley car runs along a broad, tree-lined street beside the open green of the town common in Amherst, Massachusetts, with utility poles and overhead wires marking the route. The printed caption names the view as South Pleasant Street and the Common. Amherst is the seat of Amherst College, whose campus and tree-shaded streets gave the town its nineteenth-century New England character, and street railways like the one shown connected it with neighboring Northampton and Sunderland in the early 1900s.
