About this postcard

The view shows a cluster of red-roofed chalet buildings with stone-and-timber facades among tall evergreens, with a rugged, snow-streaked mountain rising behind them and dark conifers framing the foreground. The caption identifies the Sperry Glacier Chalets in Glacier National Park. The complex was built by the Great Northern Railway in the early 1910s as a backcountry stop for park visitors, who reached it by trail and used it as a base for excursions to Sperry Glacier. Its stone lower walls and timber upper stories were designed to suit the alpine setting.
