Spirit Lake and Mount St. Helens, Washington, circa 1942

Card type
Linen

About this postcard

View across Spirit Lake toward Mount St. Helens, with a small rowboat on the calm water, forested hills along the shore, and the snow-covered peak reflected in the lake. The scene shows the mountain and lake before the 1980 eruption, when they were longtime scenic draws in southwest Washington. The card was distributed by the Washington State Advertising Commission as a free souvenir for Armed Services personnel and visitors, part of the state's effort to promote tourism. Spirit Lake and Mount St. Helens drew travelers into the Cascade Range for boating and mountain views.
