About this postcard

St. Bavo's Cathedral fills the view, its Gothic tower rising above the surrounding roofline, with a second tower visible at the left. Tram tracks run across the street in the foreground, and the monument to the Van Eyck brothers stands at the lower right. The cathedral holds the Ghent Altarpiece, the polyptych Hubert and Jan van Eyck completed for it in 1432, and the monument honors the brothers as the city's most celebrated painters. The French caption reflects the language long used for Belgium's international tourist trade.
