About this postcard

A view down St. Charles Street in New Orleans, with a yellow electric streetcar running on tracks between rows of commercial buildings, many fronted by the ornate cast-iron galleries and balconies characteristic of the city's 19th-century architecture. The card's own caption identifies the scene as St. Charles Street and the St. Charles Hotel, one of the grand hotels that anchored the street and was rebuilt several times after fires. Pedestrians in period dress line the covered sidewalks, and a large brick hotel block rises at the end of the vista.
