About this postcard

A four-story red brick parochial school with a central cupola and turreted roofline stands behind an iron fence at a street corner. A horse-drawn carriage waits on the unpaved road at right, with trees and neighboring houses beyond. The school served Waltham's Catholic community in a period when parish schools were common in immigrant neighborhoods and often staffed by religious sisters. The carriage and unpaved street place the scene before automobiles became a regular sight.
