About this postcard

The stone church stands at a street corner, its steep slate roof and arched windows softened by a heavy coat of ivy. Leafy trees frame the building, and a lighter frame house with a red roof sits at the left. The caption identifies it as St. Luke's Episcopal Church; the postmark's "East R..." likely stands for East Rochester, New York. The ivy-covered stone and arched openings fit the Gothic Revival style that Episcopal parishes favored in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. A short message on the back, signed "Kid," teases the recipient: "Dont be too good a sport while I am away."
