About this postcard

A long brick collegiate building in Tudor-Gothic style with a central tower, steep slate roofs, dormers and a columned entrance porch, fronted by lawns, a curving walk and a single parked automobile of 1930s vintage. The caption names it St. Mary's College at Notre Dame, near South Bend, Indiana. St. Mary's College was founded in 1844 by the Sisters of the Holy Cross as a Catholic women's college, closely associated with the neighboring University of Notre Dame; the towered building shown is the campus's Le Mans Hall, built in the 1920s.
