About this postcard

St. Patrick's Cathedral rises above surrounding rooftops in an elevated view, its twin Gothic Revival spires and rose window facing Fifth Avenue. The printed caption places it at Fifth Avenue and 50th Street and calls it the leading Catholic church in New York City and one of the grandest cathedrals in the world. Designed by James Renwick Jr., the cathedral was begun in 1858, dedicated in 1879, and its 330-foot spires were finished in 1888. By the early 1920s it was a well-established seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York and a landmark of Midtown Manhattan.
