About this postcard

A tinted view of the Michigan State Capitol at Lansing, a domed Neoclassical building seen from across its landscaped grounds, with a carriage and figures on the walk. Lansing became Michigan's capital in 1847, and the present capitol, designed by Elijah E. Myers and completed in 1879, is a National Historic Landmark with a cast-iron dome topped by a gilded finial. It remains the state's seat of government.
