About this postcard

The Vermont State House in Montpelier, seen from the foot of a broad flight of steps, with its gilded dome crowned by a statue of Ceres and a portico of Corinthian columns flanked by lower wings. The present building, the third state house on the site, was designed by Thomas E. Silloway and completed in 1859 after fire destroyed its predecessor; the gold-leafed dome and Ceres figure are among its best-known features. The grounds and surrounding hillside trees are shown in autumn color.
