State Historical Library, Madison, Wisconsin, circa 1940
About this postcard
The card shows the Wisconsin State Historical Library, a long Neoclassical building with a colonnade of tall columns above a rusticated base, an American flag flying from a pole in front, and large shade trees flanking it across a broad lawn and roadway. The building is the headquarters of the State Historical Society of Wisconsin, designed by Cass Gilbert and completed in 1900 on the university campus at Madison. It long served as both the society's library and its museum before the collections moved to a larger building in the 1950s.
