About this postcard

The card shows the massive Second Empire-style State, War, and Navy Building (today the Eisenhower Executive Office Building) beside the White House grounds in Washington, D.C., with its slate mansard roofs, tall chimneys, columned porticos and rows of dormers; a few pedestrians and a horse-drawn vehicle stand along the low granite fence in front. Designed by Alfred B. Mullett and completed in 1888, the granite building originally housed the Departments of State, War and the Navy, and it remains one of the largest office buildings in the city. The Detroit Photographic Co. issued this view as a color print from a photograph around 1902.
