About this postcard
A bronze statue of Captain John Parker stands on a rough boulder pedestal on Lexington's village common, musket in hand. Leafy trees and a dirt roadway frame the monument, with a wooden pole at right. Parker led the Lexington militia on April 19, 1775, when British troops and colonial militiamen clashed at the start of the American Revolution. The statue honors him and the town's Minutemen, and it stands on the Battle Green, the common where the Lexington company assembled that morning. By the early 1900s, the green had become a stop for visitors tracing Revolutionary War sites.
