About this postcard

A close view of the bronze Statue of Freedom crowning the dome of the United States Capitol, shown in profile with her crested helmet, draped classical robes, sheathed sword and laurel wreath. The figure, modeled by Thomas Crawford and cast in Rome, was hoisted into place atop the Capitol dome in 1863, where she stands facing east over the city. The card's own caption calls her "Armed Freedom."
