About this postcard

The heroic bronze figure of George Rogers Clark, hands resting on a sword, stands on a tall cylindrical pedestal within the memorial rotunda at Vincennes, Indiana; behind him a painted mural depicts soldiers of his 1779 campaign. The George Rogers Clark National Historical Park memorial was dedicated in 1933 on the site of Fort Sackville, whose capture from the British secured the Old Northwest for the United States. The statue is the work of sculptor Hermon Atkins MacNeil, and the surrounding murals are by Ezra Winter. The pedestal ring bears Clark's words about the Illinois country.
