The Statue of Liberty stands on its pedestal atop the star-shaped granite walls of Fort Wood on Bedloe's Island (now Liberty Island), seen across New York Harbor with a tinted sunrise sky behind. The statue, a gift from France dedicated in 1886 and designed by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi with an iron framework by Gustave Eiffel, served as the first landmark seen by millions of immigrants arriving at nearby Ellis Island. The low buildings and seawall of the old fort and immigration station wharf appear at the water's edge.
Narrow light border; scuffing, spots and edge wear visible on the front; typical tinted color lithography of the undivided-back era.
Postmark: NEW YORK N.Y. AUG 20 1908 8:30 AM. Divided back; green "Post Card." imprint; printed ad for Louis Dusenbury; light edge/corner wear, toning.
