About this postcard

A tall, low-angle view of the Statue of Liberty on its stone pedestal, torch raised, with an American flag hanging in a window of the base and hedges and flowers at the foot of the monument. The statue, a gift from France dedicated in 1886, was designed by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi with an internal iron framework by Gustave Eiffel and stands on Liberty Island (formerly Bedloe's Island) in New York Harbor. The pedestal, designed by Richard Morris Hunt, was completed with funds raised in a public campaign. The linen-textured stock and coloring place this printing in the mid-20th century.
