About this postcard

A composite view of the side-wheel steamer Mt. Washington on Lake Winnipesaukee, with a portrait captioned Capt. H. R. Wentworth and a wooded lakeshore vignette behind the greeting from The Weirs. The Weirs, a village of Laconia at the lake's outlet, was a busy summer resort in the steamboat era, and the Mount Washington was one of the lake's best-known excursion steamers. The portrait presents Capt. Wentworth as part of that resort trade. Aunt Mattie's message says she had never taken a trip on the lake before and enjoyed it, a small note from the height of the lake's summer excursion traffic.
