About this postcard

The side-wheel steamboat W. W. moves along the Mississippi River, with two tall smokestacks, several passenger decks, and American flags fore and aft. The vessel is shown underway, the kind of packet boat that carried passengers and freight between river towns in the early 20th century. La Crosse, Wisconsin, was one of those Mississippi River ports, and the card was mailed from there in April 1913.
