Stenographer aboard the Pennsylvania Special, circa 1902

Card type
Lithograph

About this postcard

Inside a mahogany-paneled Pennsylvania Railroad car, a stenographer in a gray suit sits at a folding desk with a typewriter. A potted palm and an arched ceiling rise above him. The caption identifies him as the stenographer of the Pennsylvania Special and advertises that his services were free. The Pennsylvania Special was the railroad's all-Pullman New York to Chicago flyer, introduced in 1902 and renamed the Broadway Limited in 1912. The card promotes the free stenographer service as an amenity for first-class passengers.
