Stone bridge and mill, My Birthday Wish, Elizabeth, NJ, 1918

About this postcard

The inset scene shows a rustic stone bridge over a stream, with an old mill and waterwheel at left, trees along the banks, and a figure standing near the bridge. The printed caption reads "My Birthday Wish," followed by the verse "A LOVING THOUGHT, A WISH SINCERE, I SEND YOU FOR THE COMING YEAR." Mary writes to her brother with family news, reports that Charley has been sick all winter, and sends birthday wishes and love. The pastoral mill setting and sentimental verse were common in early twentieth-century birthday postcards.
