An aerial view shows the Stone Crest Motel in Bedford, Pennsylvania, a motor court of low buildings grouped around a central office, with parking areas and a rectangular swimming pool set in open grass beside a road. The layout fits the mid-century auto-tourism trade: guests pulled up to their units, and the pool gave families a reason to stop. Bedford, a south-central Pennsylvania county seat on the Lincoln Highway, was well placed to catch auto travelers.
