Street scene with trolley cars, Worcester, Mass., 1915

About this postcard

A tinted view down a busy commercial street in Worcester, Massachusetts, with two open-platform electric trolley cars meeting on the tracks while pedestrians, a horse-drawn wagon and shopfronts line the left side; a tree-lined green with a monument opens on the right. The corner buildings, awnings and signboards reflect the dense downtown retail district of a New England manufacturing city in the early twentieth century, when street railways were the principal means of moving workers and shoppers through the center.
