About this postcard
A young man in a white shirt, dark tie, and vest stands beside a large folding view camera mounted on a wooden tripod, a cable release in his right hand. Behind him hang a painted studio backdrop and a carved wooden railing used as a posing prop. Photographers often made self-portraits like this one to show off both their equipment and their craft. In the 1910s a man in this trade might run a small Main Street studio or travel between towns, making portraits and selling real photo postcards of local people and places.
