About this postcard

A young man sits in a wooden chair for a studio portrait, wearing a dark suit, bow tie, and high laced boots. Behind him a painted backdrop imitates an ornate paneled interior, and a patterned carpet covers the floor. Real photo portraits like this were inexpensive and common in small-town studios of the period, often made to be mailed to relatives. This one carried a chatty note from a cousin to a man named John: a complaint that he never writes, a report of "just dandy weather" and very little snow that fall, and the news that Anna had been married. The sender closed by teasing John about when he would marry and signed off "With Regards M.M."
