Studio portrait of two young women, circa 1910

About this postcard

Two young women stand side by side in a photographic studio, dressed in the high-collared blouses and long skirts of the period. One wears a dark skirt with a large bow at the neck; the other a plaid skirt and a necktie. They pose close together, facing the camera squarely. Paired studio portraits were common and affordable by the early 1900s, when friends, sisters, or coworkers sat for a keepsake to give away. The shirtwaist and tie were everyday wear for young women of the era, practical for office, shop, or school work, and the plain backdrop keeps attention on the two figures and their clothes.
