About this postcard
A two-story summer house with a screened porch stands on a grassy slope above a lake, hemmed in by dense woods. A red rowboat floats near a stone retaining wall at the water's edge, and a large rock outcrop fills the right foreground. The scene fits the Asheville region's long run as a mountain resort, where families from the lowland South took houses for the hot months to escape the heat and spend the season boating, walking, and visiting. The card's publisher, the Asheville Post Card Co., supplied much of the souvenir trade for western North Carolina scenery in the early twentieth century.
