About this postcard

A long, shingled, gable-roofed building with rows of multi-pane windows stands on a heavy timber platform and boardwalk built over a jumble of bare granite boulders; the sky is tinted blue above and peach at the horizon. The caption names it the Summit House and Restaurant on Mount Washington in New Hampshire's White Mountains. Mount Washington, the highest peak in the northeastern United States, has hosted a summit house for visitors since the mid-19th century, served in the 20th century by the cog railway and the Mount Washington Auto Road.
