Sunken Garden fountain, Miami Beach, Florida, circa 1940
About this postcard
A circular fountain plays in a sunken garden laid out in concentric beds of red, yellow, blue and white flowers, with a flower-filled urn in the foreground and a wall of palms behind. The card names the scene as the "Beautiful Sunken Garden" of Miami Beach, Florida, one of the landscaped tourist attractions planted during the city's early-twentieth-century resort boom. The vivid, slightly heightened color and visible canvas-like texture are typical of linen-finish postcards of the late 1930s through the 1950s.
