Sunrise on Pike's Peak, Colorado Springs, CO, 1923

Printed photo

About this postcard

Sunrise over the summit of Pike's Peak, with a band of red and orange cloud across the sky above gray mist pooled in the valleys below. On the rocky top at lower right stand the summit house and a Manitou & Pike's Peak cog railway car trailing a plume of smoke. The rack railway, completed in 1891, carried tourists up to the 14,115-foot summit, and sunrise from the top was a standard souvenir view. The sender wrote from the summit itself, reporting that "The clouds are clearing away."
