Sunrise on Pike's Peak with summit house and cog railway, Colorado Springs, Colorado, circa 1910

About this postcard

A tinted halftone view of dawn over Pike's Peak, with a dramatic band of red and orange cloud filling the sky above a sea of gray mist; on the rocky summit at lower right stand the summit house and a Manitou & Pike's Peak cog railway car with a plume of smoke. The summit house and the rack railway, opened in 1891, made the 14,115-foot peak one of Colorado's most popular tourist excursions, and sunrise views from the top were a standard souvenir subject. The card's caption names the scene simply as "Sunrise, Pike's Peak."
