About this postcard
A paved two-lane highway curves through the Blue Ridge foothills at sunrise, with a red-roofed roadside building and a couple of vehicles at the bend, layered mountain ridges fading into a pink and orange sky. The card's own caption places the view on U.S. Highway 70 near Swannanoa, in the mountains between Black Mountain and Asheville, North Carolina. U.S. 70 was the region's main east-west route through the Swannanoa Valley before the coming of the interstate, and roadside stands and motor courts like the one shown catered to motor tourists crossing the Blue Ridge.
