About this postcard
A rocky overlook beside the roadway frames a layered view of forested Blue Ridge peaks under a pink and orange sunset sky, with a single evergreen silhouetted on the ridge at right. The card presents the scene as one of the many views along the Blue Ridge Parkway, the scenic motor road begun in the 1930s to link Shenandoah National Park in Virginia with Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina. The Parkway's designed overlooks and sweeping mountain vistas made it a favorite subject for mid-century linen postcards.
