About this postcard

A paved highway winds through wooded slopes of the Blue Ridge Mountains at sunset, its outer edge marked by white guard posts. The road curves out of the foreground and disappears into the hills under a sky streaked with orange and blue. The caption names the route as U.S. Highway No. 74, one of the mountain crossings that brought automobile tourists into the Blue Ridge in the early twentieth century.
